tat ali afar: The volcano $50

Named after the volcano in Northern Ethiopia, this catchy and sensual reggae-influenced work is based on a 5 note Ethiopian pentatonic scale. With a great groove that gets students to vibe together as a band, and a key change near the end, this work is simple yet impressive!

A beautiful, modal work exploring triplets. Inspired by the music of Sufjan Stevens, this work will be a special addition to your band's repertoire. (hint: it's not nearly as difficult as it sounds!)

shajar al-durr (Tree of pearls) $50

Commissioned by Belmore South Primary, this work is named after the female warrior / folklore legend Shajar Al-Durr! Featuring traditional Arabic drumming patterns, a call and response section and a beautiful, weaving melody - students also get the chance to explore improvising on a maqam (mode).

the girl from somali-land $60

Playfully inspired by the song title “The Girl From Ipanema”, this narrative work follows a young woman living in Somali-land. Create an improvised pentatonic ocean wash together as a band, hear the call to prayer and vibe out on some East African-inspired funk and swing set in Berbera city.

for samira $50

This work was inspired by the songs of legendary musician, Samira Tawfik. Enjoy playing like an Arabic orchestra, lots of unisons, grace notes and heavy on the percussion! The piece makes a fantastic concert percussion feature. 

district 2138 $40

Composed as a bass guitar feature for Concord West Public School's Concert Band, this work can feature any instrument. Why not get all the kids to practise it and choose a different featured performer each time?! Although the soloist part is challenging, the other instrumental parts are simple yet full of interesting harmonies.

Starting out with a super funky groove and gradually leaning more towards a 5 note Ethiopian pentatonic scale, this work is slightly more challenging with it’s catchy semiquaver finale, though there are simplified parts for students who haven’t quite mastered the semiquaver passages. This work is great for a loud concert finale!
